“I feel my ancestors
unrested inside of me, it’s like they want me to shoot my chance in changing society but, how do I go about it?

Tell me where I start?

My destiny rerouted when I chose to follow heart.”

Jasmine S. Brunson was born in the late nineties in Prince George’s County, MD. She was raised in various cities ranging from Upper Marlboro, Washington, D.C., Capital Heights and Glenarden, MD.

The spread of influence from each city molded her character and what’s known as The Sahara Soundz Project. As the eldest child, Jasmine serves as an anchor for her family. The eldest daughter always has the expectation of withholding the family legacy and bearing the title of the breadwinner. With her eyes set on a better life for her and her sisters, she stayed in the books and always kept a basketball in her hand to escape her reality as an adolescent.

At the age of 17 years-old she knew that taking on the responsibility of joining collegiate athletics would be the equivalent of working for the institution. Without the substantial resources, all the conversations with D2 and D3 basketball coaches would in fact be just conversations, not business. With the door closed in her face, the potential for college up in the air and the dispersion of support dwindling, the potential for a long-life dream to continue her love ended and the result led Jasmine into a “road less traveled by.” The onset of her life was changed by failure; she’d say for the better.

“You learn more in failure than you ever do in success.”

- Jay-Z

DJ-ing is not DJ Sahara’s only gift. Through channeling her ancestors, walking in her truth and rerouting her anxiety, she’s been able to articulate her plight through rhythm & rhyme. Sahara is inspired by a few of the following MCs: A Tribe Called Quest, Jay Z, Lauryn Hill, Nas, Tupac, Yasiin Bey(Mos Def), Logic, Noname, J. Cole, Drake, and many more of Hip-Hop’s greatest legends.

There hasn’t been many moments for Sahara to propel her voice & message in such a way that is truly understood by an eclectic audience, but the motivation to change is no longer to be understood. The purpose is to continue persistently embodying her purpose so that those who care to understand her will embody theirs too. Purpose is unique to every being on planet Earth but DJ Sahara’s purpose is found in her story, as an ambitious, plucky, and persistent Black Woman on Earth.

Educating Black and Brown communities about the power of Bitcoin and decentralized technologies.

The Sahara Soundz Project is a collective of artworks created to empower Black America, starting in Prince George’s County and migrating outwards.

The artworks are subject but not limited to: Hip-Hop, Big Data, Bitcoin & Blockchain technology (CEO of BlockchainCulture), spoken word, rap and poetry. The mission is uplift Black America through education, music and tech, not to reach the socio-economic status of any other ethnicity but to dwell in divine unity and Black Excellence.

The focus remains on the importance of unity at a time where Black America needs it more than ever. Black Lives Still Matter, the Vision is clearer everyday and black children need to know that fear is the only thing stopping them from becoming their best.

Ever so often we watch the youth follow the customs and behavior of their elders, but if the elders have poor values then there is no reason to condemn the youth for conceding to miseducation.

The Sahara Soundz Project is subverting the attention away from the distractions oozing from parts of the industry Hip-Hop, highlighting the power that lies in music, a moral law.

“Purpose is not a Single thing; purpose is not stable over time; Purpose is not only something you find it’s something you develop.”

Who is Sahara Soundz? The Bitcoin DJ?

Sahara Soundz is a future world changer, data scientist, activist, Bitcoiner, and DJ.

‘Sahara’ is derivative of the Sub-Saharan region of Africa. Sahara also happens to be Jasmine’s middlename so some could speculate that ‘Sahara’ was destined to serve a higher purpose than to be the content between her first and last names.

Sahara stems from the provenance of the Motherland all the way to Prince George’s County, Maryland where The Sahara Soundz Project dares to implement change, improve the conditions of Black and Brown people and facilitate the vibe through love.

Lastly, ‘Soundz’ comes from the art of dj-ing and mastering the manipulation of sounds in instrumentation through softwares such as FL Studio and Serato. Sahara Soundz is more than a name; Sahara Soundz is a movement.

MISS BLACK & GOLD PAGEANT

TBD 2020 — COLLEGE PAK, MD

Turning to music, subtly writing poems and verses about her plight and manipulating beats for the pleasure of sound Jasmine picked up the name Sahara to embrace the culture that was attempted to be uprooted from her. She sang songs sweeping up theaters at the Magic Johnson movie theater in Largo, MD. Whenever a thought was provokes at the bus stop, work or school the lyrics were written down in notes and paper. All of her content was kept internal but externally she supported one of her friends, Joseph Adeyale with the brand, Creative Club that launched a concert called Women Are the Future in 2017, celebrating the artworks of the DMV’s most talented raising artists.

She created The Sahara Soundz Project to group the collection of works she’s done to not only uplift her community but also to expose herself through music. The stigma in the Hip-Hop industry today is that “everyone wants to be an artist”, but the true decipher between who will have longevity and who will eventually dissolve is the message in the artist portrays and the level of impact it has on people. People are the cornerstone of civilization but is it true people who pick up mics have some level of responsibility in lifting up the Diaspora with promoting self-destructive behavior? I want to take Hip-Hop back to a more riveting time.
